There is only one settlement on Mykines “Mykinesbygden” until the first half of the 20th century. Mykines was one of the largest municipalities in the Faroe Islands. But due to the island's isolated location, it has slowly been depopulated. In the summer months, however, many return and inhabit the ancestral settlement again.
